Russ
Allen has 18 years of experience as a professional writer, editor, and
communications-team leader. He formed The Writers Studio in 1995 to bring the
services of experienced professionals together in a communications and
copywriting agency and writers group.
Russ has extensive
experience in project management for communications in print and other media.
He has a proven record in consulting with, and assisting clients in,
planning and creatively conceptualizing written and visual communications. His clients include major medical centers and health systems,
and software solutions companies, as well as clients in education and industry.
He has broad skills as a generalist freelance writer and special experience in
science and technical subject matter for both academic and promotional formats.
As a partner, Russ helps to coordinate and directly provide Writers
Studio services on a cost-per-project basis.
Russ and his coworkers can serve as an outsourced extension of their
clients’ in-house communication staffs.
Russ’ successful
practice as a Freelance Writer and
Editor, led him to form The Writers Studio.
He has served clients large and small in both the corporate and nonprofit
sectors, providing all types of skills needed for a variety of strategic
communications.
Russ was previously a Marketing
Writer and then Director of Medical
Communications at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he led a staff
of writers providing communications to professional audiences and the public,
covering all areas of healthcare. At the university, Russ had earlier worked as
a Development/Fundraising Writer.
Russ has a Master of
Science in science and technical communications, magna
cum laude, from Drexel University. He
also earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, cum laude, from the University of Virginia.
He has both research and clinical experience in healthcare.
He served as a senior patient-care technician at Jefferson Medical
College. He completed three research internships at the National Institutes of
Health as well as a year of additional science studies at the University of
Pennsylvania.
As part of his pro bono
work, Russ serves as President of the Board of the Clean Air Council.
